Counseling Mission Statement
As Professional School Counselors of Turner Elementary / 6th Grade Academy, our mission is to provide for every student a comprehensive, developmental and preventative school counseling program that addresses academics, career, personal and social development in collaboration with the administration, teachers, parents, and the community.

shepard Ms. Sonya Shepherd, PreK – 2nd Grades

Ms. Shepherd earned her undergraduate degrees from the University of Louisiana at Monroe (Liberal Arts), Louisiana State University-Shreveport (Education) and the Master of Arts in Counseling from Louisiana Tech University.  Ms. Shepherd is also a Nationally Board Certified Counselor (NCC) and Nationally Certified School Counselor (NCSC).  Mrs. Lacy received her undergraduate degree in Education at Southern University and Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from Louisiana Tech University.  Professional Development and membership in professional organizations help counselors stay abreast of current trends and needs in our community.  Ms. Shepherd is a member of the Caddo School Counselor Association, (CSCA) and the Louisiana Counseling Association (LCA).

knutsen Mrs. Knutsen, 3rd – 6th Grades

Mrs. Knutsen is happy being a part of the Turner Elementary family. She grew up in Mooringsport Louisiana on Caddo Lake where she lives now with husband Mike of 10 years, along with their three fur-babies, Sam, Pearl and Manny. Mrs. Knutsen earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education at LSU Shreveport, a Master of Education in Elementary Education at Centenary College, a Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance at LA Tech, and a Plus 30 in Supervision and Instruction from LSU in Shreveport. She has served 27 years in Education which began teaching 5th grade in Bossier Parish. She served as a school counselor in Bossier Parish and then crossed the river into Caddo parish to counsel high school students and then served eight years as an instructional coordinator in Caddo before joining Turner in the Fall of 2015.

Mrs. Knutsen is very active in her church and loves teaching Sunday school and directing Vacation Bible School every summer at Mooringsport Baptist Church. She loves to read, travel with her husband, cheering on the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. She also loves her family and spending time with them, which now includes several great nieces and nephews to love.
